The participants submitted one photo a week to the group based on the color theme for the month. At the end of the month we would post our collages. I was inspired and in awe at the work of these photo gals and I have included a link circle to their collages! Here are my collages of The Colors of 2013: </span></span></span><br />

</div>
I feel like my life is like a tree. I've planted my roots in the soil and I am attempting to grow up from what foot hold I have on this earth. Sometimes I am branching every which way ~ turning towards the sun or away from the wind. I will reach my arms to the sky with an exclamation or sometimes throw a fist back down to the earth in disgust. My colors or my moods, like the leaves on a tree are ever changing with the seasons or even with the time of day. I find myself changing with the sun or the rain or even the temperature.<br />
<br />
At the beginning of the year I tried to identify my style as an artist and what direction I wanted to take my art. I thought I was not sure, but as the year comes to an end and I look back at the photos I have taken I realize I have found my niche! I have a thing!<br />
<br />
In the coming year I will continue taking long walks in the woods with my eyes to the sky looking at the patterns made by the morning sun on the branches and shadows on the trunks. I will capture the visitors that nest and make homes high in the branches or rest while passing through and maybe next year my "thing" might be the birds! <br />

I'm never "in the loop". I'm no "sorority sista" nor did I ever want to be one. As a matter of fact, when I moved up to middle school from grade school, I was still wearing my elementary school Danskin's pants and saddle shoes when all the other girls were suddenly wearing Levi Jeans and Clogs. At some point back then, I tried to fit in. I went to get some back to school clogs after the rush of back to school shopping was done and over. I found a pair but they were too small. I crammed my feet into them and wore them to fit in, but they hurt. I looked like one of the crowd, but I didn't "feel" like one of them.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg8YJt8nBwNpkUH9SLyiljQ02TDr1YzGfpO0WDT9yXaL_Thd6ocBnU4DNlRXZyohjzWJWSQuTOVdsYl7xf0fUYqjbQFO55zb0RRpYktJb3zfw9mpszN7ZP-SG5BGKyJUYhzms35lv37-Z4/s1600/On+Being+Unique+4x6.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg8YJt8nBwNpkUH9SLyiljQ02TDr1YzGfpO0WDT9yXaL_Thd6ocBnU4DNlRXZyohjzWJWSQuTOVdsYl7xf0fUYqjbQFO55zb0RRpYktJb3zfw9mpszN7ZP-SG5BGKyJUYhzms35lv37-Z4/s640/On+Being+Unique+4x6.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
And so it goes in life. One tries to fit in, to be one of a group, to belong to something, to be the same.<br />
<br />
When I got to college and it was time to choose what I wanted to do the rest of my life, it was a hard choice. I changed my mind and schools enough to prove that point. I had a brother and a sister who were in engineering schools and another brother and a boy friend who were in programming. I started off on a path in art, but I felt like I needed to keep up with the siblings, and that my choice of art wasn't good enough. I eventually ended up with a bunch of students in a pre-med program at school studying science and chemistry.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjZV_yLt_tYZwkqvtXcW69MDEiVYKP9IbFP_lGUnCwuZp5H8odqEszDCfS4y6L0Q7BJRAE6ZP5qg6Xi9-6nswG_C9SSaTyS7s3TSjiuID013TmDrIPy3MXwL-7Uc0mLlvpZLwPbQsVm5OY/s1600/Pine+in+Grasses.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="476" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjZV_yLt_tYZwkqvtXcW69MDEiVYKP9IbFP_lGUnCwuZp5H8odqEszDCfS4y6L0Q7BJRAE6ZP5qg6Xi9-6nswG_C9SSaTyS7s3TSjiuID013TmDrIPy3MXwL-7Uc0mLlvpZLwPbQsVm5OY/s640/Pine+in+Grasses.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
I was doing fine but I didn't "feel" like I fit in. My senior year I changed my major back to art.<br />
With my heavy science background I ended up getting jobs in technical industries. I developed multimedia training programs for financial companies, medical equipment companies, flight simulation and the defense industries. All along the way, I never blended in with the crowd, didn't fit in. I learned that it was ok to be different, but like wearing the wrong shoes, it hurts.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiFk1gtGyAQhgg4dHChTXXdDQyCz1t45Ab0pNo3G_xGEWu3l4ltFiXunDuLeW0d37PWOEdgk2X38aHFXgcJB2A8-nYfTIzrFRqT7DllidbaBjL7Uk_vfPNz7d2d17mp1uI9j1V4GNoDQFk/s1600/Unknown+Destination.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiFk1gtGyAQhgg4dHChTXXdDQyCz1t45Ab0pNo3G_xGEWu3l4ltFiXunDuLeW0d37PWOEdgk2X38aHFXgcJB2A8-nYfTIzrFRqT7DllidbaBjL7Uk_vfPNz7d2d17mp1uI9j1V4GNoDQFk/s640/Unknown+Destination.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
Following the wrong life path really can hurt. It can show up as bad moods, headaches and actual physical pains. I am out of the rat race now and no longer trying to fit that mold. I am pursuing what I love AND I no longer hurt!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhQuWBhWc36WmF-2IBeShf7Qlw2lBkecpa9aNEZG2TBWYCUodQFNSl3HHIauNgTX8dfOsolPi8wMQPQCp84k1ZEXz2dmRvdJbJisfMnNn07wRbn9hMmp4XLbYNg-NLrBnz-ogXqIWyXY3w/s1600/Path+ro+the+Woods.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhQuWBhWc36WmF-2IBeShf7Qlw2lBkecpa9aNEZG2TBWYCUodQFNSl3HHIauNgTX8dfOsolPi8wMQPQCp84k1ZEXz2dmRvdJbJisfMnNn07wRbn9hMmp4XLbYNg-NLrBnz-ogXqIWyXY3w/s640/Path+ro+the+Woods.JPG" width="480" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Follow your own path, love what you do and make it work for you. There is no sense in wearing the wrong shoes just to "fit in" because it doesn't feel right. And besides, it hurts your feet.<br />

But that is not going to happen anytime soon. But, I did decorate my laundry room with some bird photo blocks that I made this past summer. Here is the make over:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi2bw06kpE4DJ15q6gXWLNw_B7YHZHftdXLiLEJGhByE8SOPOmvaoKox7FzkQEnDh53KL0D6M-VhLGvII9KLpEoRshyphenhyphenxn0vgXHmhygbQuSimhRzLBDm-zmiy-xpqFtyxy_y7zSN6cn81ac/s1600/Photo+Blocks.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi2bw06kpE4DJ15q6gXWLNw_B7YHZHftdXLiLEJGhByE8SOPOmvaoKox7FzkQEnDh53KL0D6M-VhLGvII9KLpEoRshyphenhyphenxn0vgXHmhygbQuSimhRzLBDm-zmiy-xpqFtyxy_y7zSN6cn81ac/s400/Photo+Blocks.jpg" width="268" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The window in the laundry is decorated with faux shutters on the sides. They were shelving boards cut to length at Home Depot and I painted them with chalk board paint.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiOCYyeTXYIvxmvYJGqGDRHxm9_IV7u-th5RWYbhVvbtXZMgc9WZ69Azc88fVIo3do4jXW7VqB5eStbbPYJk-WJnxc_-a83l887S_lzu96oLt66fJPFeJX1tYh9EWVaJfAo-HGg6yDEBQo/s1600/Shutters.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiOCYyeTXYIvxmvYJGqGDRHxm9_IV7u-th5RWYbhVvbtXZMgc9WZ69Azc88fVIo3do4jXW7VqB5eStbbPYJk-WJnxc_-a83l887S_lzu96oLt66fJPFeJX1tYh9EWVaJfAo-HGg6yDEBQo/s400/Shutters.jpg" width="312" /></a></div>
<br />
I really want to add an image that is more "laundry" related. I had this one more image that works with the photo block set, featuring three birds on a wire. This is a cropped section of it:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiTglgUMhXqdZ2mmVHKGeHvYfXkriZ2w8ibIc5TwT8t8y7hD7JZxSqKbaK6weCksiolzv5-N6WICMFSs1r2NZAy4iloduZLmLww1fNLJIHRYEcCzwhK3tVsLmfHSVe3BQvxIMKyjPXzFII/s1600/Three+Birds.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="149" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiTglgUMhXqdZ2mmVHKGeHvYfXkriZ2w8ibIc5TwT8t8y7hD7JZxSqKbaK6weCksiolzv5-N6WICMFSs1r2NZAy4iloduZLmLww1fNLJIHRYEcCzwhK3tVsLmfHSVe3BQvxIMKyjPXzFII/s320/Three+Birds.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I call this one "A little bird told me". Today in the cold Texas fall I strung up some clothesline rope between two trees and used some clothespins to hang up a couple of vintage pillowcases like so:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjNvaz83XQNvienpJKfJ6vjUomJfvq0T74HJRbNfXTt0SbvSIk3xhxTEzKt0HRPk5Q1LHW90WeCogN42MLfgq-RZxrObRP3KYIyF1cNNvO31t2U81mVz5oW66w4xJgOsOGR0EuqsSckt7g/s1600/Hanging+Laundry.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="200" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjNvaz83XQNvienpJKfJ6vjUomJfvq0T74HJRbNfXTt0SbvSIk3xhxTEzKt0HRPk5Q1LHW90WeCogN42MLfgq-RZxrObRP3KYIyF1cNNvO31t2U81mVz5oW66w4xJgOsOGR0EuqsSckt7g/s320/Hanging+Laundry.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Of course my helper was with me as you can just about see her tail end. She cleared the area of all rabbits and squirrels. I took this image and merged it to the birds so it looked like the birds were sitting on the clothesline!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj3eu5Xm2v3QPDG3zFePFxIcoJCMgQJxFufk-_CR226LbBUHFo96D-3PdcLSWFTnZ5Ag96_xKwaFi7eyTqC9fIlQMmHDn_CzMlREBeUN5Qc2bYbek6NzsyJpkDWA0yiQEhQ0ZKZf9yx5Jk/s1600/Hang+the+Laundry.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj3eu5Xm2v3QPDG3zFePFxIcoJCMgQJxFufk-_CR226LbBUHFo96D-3PdcLSWFTnZ5Ag96_xKwaFi7eyTqC9fIlQMmHDn_CzMlREBeUN5Qc2bYbek6NzsyJpkDWA0yiQEhQ0ZKZf9yx5Jk/s1600/Hang+the+Laundry.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
It almost looks like a sundress and a pillowcase. I just added the tree photo as a layer and erased out the background, trees, leaves and of course the dog.<br />
<br />
I then merged this one to the final photo "block" and added some apropos text.<br />

And this image is available now in my Etsy shop, on canvas.<a href="https://www.etsy.com/listing/169030701/birds-on-wire-canvas-sage-green-laundry">CatinoCreations.Etsy.com</a> I will be making the other photo blocks available on canvas as well, so you can decorate your own laundry room. Which, I hear, is for the birds!<br />

Back up the clocks. There were many years where I backed up the clock radio beside my bed, then my husband would back it up. Double back up are not good. So this year I did not touch the clock radio. Neither did he. So when I woke up at 6:22 I figured my braid thought it was 7:22. No reason to fight being awake, so I got up. It was really 5:22. ON A SUNDAY???<br />
<br />
It is finally cool enough to turn on the oven hear in Texas, so I thought I would make some biscotti. First batch of the baking season. I had just purchased some dried pineapple chunks that were waiting to be used. And I had a can of crushed pineapple for some juice. AND there on the counter top left to dry out were two branches of rosemary from the herb garden. I thought, at 5:30 in the morning, it would be a good idea to combine the two.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhNZ9qBK4-TuxfM5DtC65B0cRNo1uE3WXR2z9ezTN9-8IxDuZwnRO4fEtIl5552mMw2Xc2efaxyd2k2oZqNX-QU6QSiGC4vo_JWQAlK7Z-L4btUNjz33mU4yzVp8Z0xlnTG_0U7DEi1wRE/s1600/Rosemary+blooms.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhNZ9qBK4-TuxfM5DtC65B0cRNo1uE3WXR2z9ezTN9-8IxDuZwnRO4fEtIl5552mMw2Xc2efaxyd2k2oZqNX-QU6QSiGC4vo_JWQAlK7Z-L4btUNjz33mU4yzVp8Z0xlnTG_0U7DEi1wRE/s400/Rosemary+blooms.JPG" width="300" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
I love love love the smell of the freshly cut herbs from the garden. As an aside, I don't know what we did differently this year, but our rosemary actually bloomed! It looked almost like the lavender plant right next to it in the garden. Maybe it was jealous.<br />
<br />
Being that it was so early in the morning and I was delirious with the scent of fresh herbs, I forgot to mix my pineapple chunks into the batter, but hey, I'll have it for the next batch.<br />
<br />

<br />
I make my biscotti so it is not rock hard and hurts my teeth, yet it is firm enough to last through several coffee dunks. That is what it is all about in this house anyways! Here is my recipe:<br />
<br />
Into one mixing bowl goes:<br />
2 1/2 cups flour<br />
1/2 tsp salt<br />
2 tsp baking powder<br />
<br />
Into another mixing bowl goes:<br />
2/3 cup brown sugar<br />
4 tblsp pineapple juice<br />
3 tblsp Olive Oil<br />
2 eggs<br />
1 tsp vanilla<br />
<br />
(next time I bake some I will add more photos through the steps)<br />
Slowly add the dry to the wet until a soft dough is formed. I guess you could to this in a food processor, but I don't like to get into the heavy equipment early in the morning. Before coffee. Before sunrise. Or almost ever.<br />
<br />
Add 1/2 cup candied or dry pineapple bits. And if you like some piney zing, cut up some rosemary with kitchen shears, about two teaspoons. Add some walnuts if you want. I didn't have any available today.<br />
<br />
Butter a cookie sheet up and sprinkle some flour onto it. Knock that flour from side to side so there is a nice coating on the sheet, to keep the log from sticking.<br />
<br />
Form the dough into a flat log about four inches wide and as long as the cookie sheet. This stuff is pretty sticky so you might want to dip your finger tips into some flour. Top the log with a sprinkling of Turbinado sugar or large sugar crystals.<br />
<br />
Bake about 30 minutes in 350 degree oven until the log is firm to the touch but still dimples from your finger touch. Remove the log from the oven and let sit for as long as it takes for you to make a cup of cappucino, about 7 minutes. Transfer the log to a cutting board with two spatulas so it doesn't break. Cut into 3/4 slices and lie the slices flat on the cookie sheet. Into the oven it goes for about 10 more minutos until there is a nice crisp on the top side. Take them out and with your bare fingers pick one up to dunk into that cappucino before it gets cold. The coffee that is. And the biscotti.<br />
<br />
Enjoy,<br />
Until next time!!<br />
<br />

Except for the pea soup color. Since I "do art" "do photography" and "do vintage" I have a multi-purpose room. I have decided to show off the corners of my messes, which is a difficult thing to do! I don't mind sharing the end results of my creativity, or even the creative processes but to show where it all takes place is anxiety inducing! I think this is so because I feel like what you can see in these photos is a snapshot of what goes on in my ADD mind. I constantly have ideas to try something new, to repurpose something vintage and to create something. You can see all of these ideas on my floor, on my desk, in my baskets and bins and chairs and even under my coffee table. Don't criticize me too much. It gives me anxiety. But you can certainly can criticize that pea soup color. Oh how I wish I had the time to change that! It looked good 12 years ago, honest it did.<br />

There is a dead tree down the street from me that I always think about photographing every time I drive past it. This was my chance for an excuse to stop and do just that. I waited for the sun to set and head out. It was almost getting too dark to shoot the tree against a darkening purple sky.<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I almost never use a flash and I had to resort to using the flash, which in the end turned out just fine. There were many moths and bugs flying around and getting in the shot and round specks of light or "spooky spirit halos". Sure, that's what I will call them. I ended up using this shot:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiph-fm4emOSi-R5IG7R9_NChRSZDgTV8erNibtCtC-my3uO6rdkams4PRTAWTodpSamyNzbpZc46TsnG8Ykt5z4KDFoUeNOMoFOPSUkZccffZyxm1o9FHQzuJ4yZ-qOx4sPHKgChWhPPM/s1600/Flash+in+the+Night.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiph-fm4emOSi-R5IG7R9_NChRSZDgTV8erNibtCtC-my3uO6rdkams4PRTAWTodpSamyNzbpZc46TsnG8Ykt5z4KDFoUeNOMoFOPSUkZccffZyxm1o9FHQzuJ4yZ-qOx4sPHKgChWhPPM/s640/Flash+in+the+Night.jpg" width="480" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
Can you see the bug halos? No, my lens is not dirty! This shot was ok, but I wanted it to be spookier. I had taken some photos in a local graveyard last week, so I dug out this one to merge the two together after resizing it to the correct proportion for the tree:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjZnlqkG0l-CK0c3yVBU_IjhAfZJiOn-fvnizjjucg0zSDKr3L16FnTE4SCKBsrvG7PTD7O2HimsmXC3LFLfpzrq9hObQaLzTm1qz1Dl4S6p-cHdgeJTTcCbTP3Gpzr4W5lEjW1W0NFMVA/s1600/headstone.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjZnlqkG0l-CK0c3yVBU_IjhAfZJiOn-fvnizjjucg0zSDKr3L16FnTE4SCKBsrvG7PTD7O2HimsmXC3LFLfpzrq9hObQaLzTm1qz1Dl4S6p-cHdgeJTTcCbTP3Gpzr4W5lEjW1W0NFMVA/s320/headstone.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Using the stamp tool in PaintShop Pro, I copied the headstone to an area under the tree and it ended up like so:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhisPnEJhbQGVbRXUyFKsbclnxAB4R8NCacj1pm8Hy2lj_LMuNix8bXERxxRYXOjbcDSiUrSPtOaYI98sbEpwNpGBpPpXhLjuJQuMjo4TV5pCYjmLEaXxjJ7hxRTu9qZ_lQHI8uEZAcLwA/s1600/Tree+with+Headstone.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhisPnEJhbQGVbRXUyFKsbclnxAB4R8NCacj1pm8Hy2lj_LMuNix8bXERxxRYXOjbcDSiUrSPtOaYI98sbEpwNpGBpPpXhLjuJQuMjo4TV5pCYjmLEaXxjJ7hxRTu9qZ_lQHI8uEZAcLwA/s640/Tree+with+Headstone.jpg" width="480" /></a></div>
<br />
I know this was not the greatest copy or cut and paste job but I knew that I was going to heavily texturize it, so it did not matter much. The texture I chose was called "Rebirth (cool)" by Joel Olive and I got it as a free download from his website. Here is his website <a href="http://www.joelolives.com/?cat=4">http://www.joelolives.com/?cat=4</a> You can join the Texture Club for $10 a month to get many textures, or sample some of his downloads to try out. Here is the texture I used:<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhK4Nqu8YZfN7asE_fSHcdyf8dj_-0P3U6vmbIpT8P0EgGNR5XXhuRclnpeMB0yY91XTUa2BbYlGuqE-KTVSdgZJezF79nVgTXzEXH3S_NPJPA2E7FB_pt343AkO7_mscM4RIX_HFti3_Q/s1600/Joel+Olive+Texture.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhK4Nqu8YZfN7asE_fSHcdyf8dj_-0P3U6vmbIpT8P0EgGNR5XXhuRclnpeMB0yY91XTUa2BbYlGuqE-KTVSdgZJezF79nVgTXzEXH3S_NPJPA2E7FB_pt343AkO7_mscM4RIX_HFti3_Q/s320/Joel+Olive+Texture.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
I added the texture as it's own layer and changed the opacity to about 50% or so. It ended up looking like this:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhDnthqF4_KyFAWrMiAyCbsTV0BDloGhp-e3dvTUARsRzin267xbqZOxIR4gO-8q8JhTZLHdFWFOTMd6japqqpiT-MTnlq2HlL9cu-CzBiNcAba2JLmOd1FYBZ308VLhWlhpz08EMHyIno/s1600/Textured+photo.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhDnthqF4_KyFAWrMiAyCbsTV0BDloGhp-e3dvTUARsRzin267xbqZOxIR4gO-8q8JhTZLHdFWFOTMd6japqqpiT-MTnlq2HlL9cu-CzBiNcAba2JLmOd1FYBZ308VLhWlhpz08EMHyIno/s400/Textured+photo.jpg" width="300" /></a></div>
<br />
I merged the two layers and played with the contrast and brightness until I got an effect that I wanted. I ended up dropping the brightness by -25% or so and uppinng the contrast by about 35% or so. This is what I ended up with after slapping on my copyright stamp:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgv7ayaZwhldkEk5kHLV13aE6Q9xAYLeKASThx0McepjqTw5Cptl78rm02XDwVSZuVncSa63VIrK5m-WAqWc6lTx3z19pJ_NWcAfXJyz2_e_7zP28ChMT_YK2k-bJ5uOvZk04DCeTyKZFg/s1600/Week+50+Spooky.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgv7ayaZwhldkEk5kHLV13aE6Q9xAYLeKASThx0McepjqTw5Cptl78rm02XDwVSZuVncSa63VIrK5m-WAqWc6lTx3z19pJ_NWcAfXJyz2_e_7zP28ChMT_YK2k-bJ5uOvZk04DCeTyKZFg/s640/Week+50+Spooky.jpg" width="479" /></a></div>
<br />
Oh so spooky with that glowing headstone. Seems like a moth halo got in the photo as well! Even Spookier!<br />
And now I must tell a joke that my Dad always says when we pass a grave yard. "Do you know why they put a fence around a graveyard? Because people are dying to get in!"<br />
<br />
Oldie but goody for Halloween. Have fun playing with the flash in the dark! Happy Halloween! Of course I took my camera with me! We went up North of Lake Ray Roberts, twisting and turning and kicking up dust through the long winding, dry dry dry dirt roads.<br />

It was a beautiful blue sky day and if I had a wide angle lens instead of my point and shoot Sony, I may have been able to make it look like Wyoming. Not that Wyoming is any better than Texas...</div>

We were actually surprised at how some of the landscape had many trees and there were actually hills! Texas hills, but little hills and valleys none the less.</div>

There were plenty of cows to photograph. And Texas Longhorns of course. Some of them even posed for me while lazing in a field of burnt out wild flowers.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
It was hard not to imagine living on a ranch out in the middle of this true "Texas Country" and think about what one might do...like raise goats!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi-Uuc0vLsdjz6fl2DiX-RjgjFik09KONuS816CD-du4RIudGRQkSd3V-QLWcIu52-OgBBkva7jWqIr5lnhs2pYWNj8e0A_ySL3aS4gx-S6EmVOWArQfSOIfxdnECjlvdRvq4kN5IYN7mQ/s1600/Goats.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="374" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi-Uuc0vLsdjz6fl2DiX-RjgjFik09KONuS816CD-du4RIudGRQkSd3V-QLWcIu52-OgBBkva7jWqIr5lnhs2pYWNj8e0A_ySL3aS4gx-S6EmVOWArQfSOIfxdnECjlvdRvq4kN5IYN7mQ/s640/Goats.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
Milk, Cheese, Goat Meat? Actually it was quite an eye opener. I don't know if I would like being so solitary. Maybe I could try it out for a little bit and see how I could do without a Michael's or JoAnn's Fabric store or a Hobby Lobby close by...<br />
<br />
Just as the sun was setting and we were just about home I manage to snap some "Wyoming" big sky shots of Texas landscapes and turn them into some masterpieces with a little texturing magic. (I use an old version of PaintShop Pro for my photo finishing. )<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjQu-bNLE-hj1nUQYSWAGpM_BuAg3Yaon8G3vlg7XjxAHddZbf_nm5DOUDkzx6qFGIUXkpkqjqeTjAeQqorUKFk3h4ccK8o6NRCdxaFrS6S16RL5ainW4LElNe9gCXZqtHBRRjagVb2_2A/s1600/Texas+Landscape+with+Cows.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="298" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjQu-bNLE-hj1nUQYSWAGpM_BuAg3Yaon8G3vlg7XjxAHddZbf_nm5DOUDkzx6qFGIUXkpkqjqeTjAeQqorUKFk3h4ccK8o6NRCdxaFrS6S16RL5ainW4LElNe9gCXZqtHBRRjagVb2_2A/s400/Texas+Landscape+with+Cows.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
I started with this shot of cows grazing in a field and I cropped off most of the field to the horizon was not cutting the photo in half. Newbie mistake! Also a mistake easy to make while snapping photos from a moving car...<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjvXkzYDC0Mftq0vdIU-0gMZ0CNISnsPVOv_NaZ8AjC-1Pvuo6cYE2JrhVb8ogo0E7cq4H-5krhJ8ZZQOHE-r4n6y49sJCSC6E26R9r18wBzvpSNcnn_jHW2j_tU4Git8GnXKRxNc2GTh0/s1600/Cropped+Landscape+with+Cows.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="339" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjvXkzYDC0Mftq0vdIU-0gMZ0CNISnsPVOv_NaZ8AjC-1Pvuo6cYE2JrhVb8ogo0E7cq4H-5krhJ8ZZQOHE-r4n6y49sJCSC6E26R9r18wBzvpSNcnn_jHW2j_tU4Git8GnXKRxNc2GTh0/s640/Cropped+Landscape+with+Cows.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
I then decided that I wanted to use this photo as a large poster size piece so I s-t-r-e-a-c-h-e-d it.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjt8iT5hLg0Ix_O_LC80i9tbMhQ9FcjVSxba96qAhmgseRcn3hyw2_0A-v16cd-TQ55k09A8qH7ySccM-0NdDKjZ2MKMqjbUzSnWHa97rEUyyPFHkfueSBcK3nkmRu93uzAJgv3n7TLWrs/s1600/Streached.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="273" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjt8iT5hLg0Ix_O_LC80i9tbMhQ9FcjVSxba96qAhmgseRcn3hyw2_0A-v16cd-TQ55k09A8qH7ySccM-0NdDKjZ2MKMqjbUzSnWHa97rEUyyPFHkfueSBcK3nkmRu93uzAJgv3n7TLWrs/s640/Streached.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
But then my cows stretched so I had to copy them back in from the original with a stamp tool and get rid of the stretched cows. Not to worry, it didn't hurt the cows at all. They couldn't feel it.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgbWa37Vcfky1mlt9dTDwD4VCyqP7AlY-fm3MdPflkj96buADBtcKYl_EE7Wf44RhWa6mbCnNC5kyfqT1_KrV77vtJTU5COa-uYuQzEYJmpzONTH63_efKF0eYlvlGWxoX-EjhEQarEh-o/s1600/Texture.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgbWa37Vcfky1mlt9dTDwD4VCyqP7AlY-fm3MdPflkj96buADBtcKYl_EE7Wf44RhWa6mbCnNC5kyfqT1_KrV77vtJTU5COa-uYuQzEYJmpzONTH63_efKF0eYlvlGWxoX-EjhEQarEh-o/s320/Texture.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I used the above texture from my favorite free texture guy at
<a href="http://shadowhousecreations.blogspot.com/">http://shadowhousecreations.blogspot.com</a> and pulled the opacity down to about 65% from what I remember. This time I used the eraser and stamped some of the texture out. I did it this way because I wanted to keep that fantastic old tin type frame around the edges. In this photo below you can see where I am just starting to erase out the texture layer from over the sky area to let the "big sky" show through.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhmSoC0zoj3OLTq4dd4QYxm9h_0A0eFDWJpy3T72yx_9E9V5g_IikU8Z8c_WBqOtle3j_uZv4YcrRGZrAej9jF5VR12V2fbjyg7iQRbV7n9m16e4czCNGpbJktxEwJYZBCNWHB1MTJPKOg/s1600/Erasing+sky.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="362" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhmSoC0zoj3OLTq4dd4QYxm9h_0A0eFDWJpy3T72yx_9E9V5g_IikU8Z8c_WBqOtle3j_uZv4YcrRGZrAej9jF5VR12V2fbjyg7iQRbV7n9m16e4czCNGpbJktxEwJYZBCNWHB1MTJPKOg/s640/Erasing+sky.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
This is a look at the final piece. It has a wonderful rustic old time Texas feel to it. It will be available as a 12 x 36 poster size.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
These are two other shots from the same drive. I put the same textured finishes to them.<br />

See what I mean about "Big Sky"? ~ MicheleMichele Catinohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07963256682110174997noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-539723696968923027.post-31959850688341626702012-05-23T14:58:00.002-07:002012-05-23T15:01:54.454-07:00Winter is OVERIt is getting hot here in Texas. Almost to the point where we have to keep the AC on day and night. I like to open the windows at night so it has to be under 75 degrees. Some nights, especially in the summer, it doesn't even drop below 80. Good grief! And with this heat our winter flowers are burning out. Especially the winter flowers, petunias and pansies. I have already dug mine up and replaced them with something more heat tolerant.<br />
<br />
This is a pic of one of the purple pansies I dug up from out front. I grabbed a shot of it after I dug it out of the trash bin heading for compost.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhJNMxoZULQ5wwbcIgeSS4BHjLHbA0OuJGUSrG6QoeU2a-jnZWW_UvgHU4UHzF-JHmnXWKIP8oKemCMs-zaVjzOxRZoHyDZ7VnREjmJRufWOBOGDv3fvWVGRjnokRId1Kain-9EMrpp7E8/s1600/Holding+pansy.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhJNMxoZULQ5wwbcIgeSS4BHjLHbA0OuJGUSrG6QoeU2a-jnZWW_UvgHU4UHzF-JHmnXWKIP8oKemCMs-zaVjzOxRZoHyDZ7VnREjmJRufWOBOGDv3fvWVGRjnokRId1Kain-9EMrpp7E8/s320/Holding+pansy.JPG" width="265" /></a></div>
<br />
This is not the exact shot. But I merged the pansy shot with a pretty Bokeh texture from <a href="http://shadowhousecreations.blogspot.com/2012/05/shadowhouse-creations-watermark-pattern.html">http://shadowhousecreations.blogspot.com/2012/05/shadowhouse-creations-watermark-pattern.html</a> that I have been waiting to use and this was the perfect opportunity.<br />
<br />
This is the texture I used:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh72ADskCMYlHCBa18hWdCcYz2Jg7QaAvQ4yBTBlGZa7ZpL_hPFzHFmo600ubTYWlrpfbG90ptFEKg-CUgromV0qNB6v8yd98wBpYhF3KrwSThv1hE_Ay2Wtc_cgPPACYT3DSrOCVH9oXU/s1600/ShadowhouseBokeh4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="267" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh72ADskCMYlHCBa18hWdCcYz2Jg7QaAvQ4yBTBlGZa7ZpL_hPFzHFmo600ubTYWlrpfbG90ptFEKg-CUgromV0qNB6v8yd98wBpYhF3KrwSThv1hE_Ay2Wtc_cgPPACYT3DSrOCVH9oXU/s400/ShadowhouseBokeh4.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I dropped the opacity to 50% or so and the two together looked like this:</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Our house sits on the top of a hill on a wooded acre, so we get to admire a lot of wild life as it passes through or makes our lot as a temporary home.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjZ3GWU_EB0O_6NYRURik-Lco_rs_UKA7VYbGXNSbCmOC2YpKWZqX1TJHaFJXW0uIP-4EfqERrqvS0gf3VPV9zz4pEiaO8y0YK8mbY68mPph-B9evuKz5B-ZX6oGbtslWu2eDtr5-WQmU0/s1600/Blue+Sky+of+Robins.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjZ3GWU_EB0O_6NYRURik-Lco_rs_UKA7VYbGXNSbCmOC2YpKWZqX1TJHaFJXW0uIP-4EfqERrqvS0gf3VPV9zz4pEiaO8y0YK8mbY68mPph-B9evuKz5B-ZX6oGbtslWu2eDtr5-WQmU0/s400/Blue+Sky+of+Robins.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
It has been fun over the years and I have collected many photos of Raccoon in the trees, Rabbits from my gardens, Bull Frogs from the pond and many types of butterflies. This past Spring we saw migrations of many birds. Robins, Chickadees, Cedar Waxwings as well as our resident Cardinals and Blue Birds. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjPuOpgYDd-bppDfnNYe74bTwed3YjQ0CwLHSic1CInFip_5onmjRQN5zw8_MMc1Xpkj84SWVR1hE_R8FaKdurXwkxUCcq_DJPM92n6R3pCoCxiHnp2miDWXzXem9Ebg6DlBwP8oafWMBs/s1600/Robins+Before.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjPuOpgYDd-bppDfnNYe74bTwed3YjQ0CwLHSic1CInFip_5onmjRQN5zw8_MMc1Xpkj84SWVR1hE_R8FaKdurXwkxUCcq_DJPM92n6R3pCoCxiHnp2miDWXzXem9Ebg6DlBwP8oafWMBs/s320/Robins+Before.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
One morning I manged to capture this male Cardinal as he was noisily tweeting up a storm in the early morning sun. Glad I had my 20x zoom on my Sony. With all the noise he was making it seemed as if he was much closer though.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
I took these three photos and a few more of some other migrating flocks of various birds and moodied them up with one of my favorite textures, Bluetopia, which can be found at one of my favorite sites: <a href="http://shadowhousecreations.blogspot.com/">http://shadowhousecreations.blogspot.com/</a><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiVPPghq3ih63ioXCi7qm4jCiM48c-_MigpyOwj1QKBumixHmtvnqRYLajkwxFjHLE5KmKjbA31HZNUbykvsRaouly0PttUd9BF2t8TPR7hyphenhyphenJYbpBSzT2isXmjvHbn6BB2GBvHID6szDNM/s1600/Blutopia+in+Indigo.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="239" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiVPPghq3ih63ioXCi7qm4jCiM48c-_MigpyOwj1QKBumixHmtvnqRYLajkwxFjHLE5KmKjbA31HZNUbykvsRaouly0PttUd9BF2t8TPR7hyphenhyphenJYbpBSzT2isXmjvHbn6BB2GBvHID6szDNM/s320/Blutopia+in+Indigo.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
And sometimes I will take the textures I want to use and change the color or hue of it to suit my needs. This one is Bluetopia in green:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhQx84rTCKZh1fsHaTJyjt_GKmtdF1binpzbxm6cmmgsO-pLOsSOGRn6AxpJRqPChK1qRfgwUGTa5HziwmJ_wlzKpnCnKgSwRNiNpNlQjlW0SWshUiSo9HY_FnHfaaAnYqNYO541NdpxzQ/s1600/Blutopia+in+Green.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhQx84rTCKZh1fsHaTJyjt_GKmtdF1binpzbxm6cmmgsO-pLOsSOGRn6AxpJRqPChK1qRfgwUGTa5HziwmJ_wlzKpnCnKgSwRNiNpNlQjlW0SWshUiSo9HY_FnHfaaAnYqNYO541NdpxzQ/s320/Blutopia+in+Green.jpg" width="239" /></a></div>
<br />
I added these textures layers to my photos. In some cases I had to photo retouch to get more birdies in the shot. I just couldn't get them to sit still for me! Here are the final shots.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgMestCr2owcGY3MVbdQS7F67ubDTJlTZ0Zf8HL87M-Upt2Z-c0FAEzJdoSgbDJVcxoiJ2uAyEXfoC8zBsmD2ksPefTALZ58it-UaxinjhV0ze_KB0BPfLtw_r02Bdlqwv9GZ0CQBe0-mU/s1600/8+x+10+ChickadeeFramed.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgMestCr2owcGY3MVbdQS7F67ubDTJlTZ0Zf8HL87M-Upt2Z-c0FAEzJdoSgbDJVcxoiJ2uAyEXfoC8zBsmD2ksPefTALZ58it-UaxinjhV0ze_KB0BPfLtw_r02Bdlqwv9GZ0CQBe0-mU/s640/8+x+10+ChickadeeFramed.JPG" width="536" /></a></div>
<br />
On these two Robins I changed up the hue of Bluetopia to more of a sepia toned texture. I played around with the blues and greens and this sepia seemed to work the best with the Robin's red breast and the tone of the twigs. I did a little burn around the edges to soften the look to a more Shabby Chic look!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgmlxhwo8H_huFft319KMZus2gmXOgmEmy5Xpr_by8xqjy3OKTSAYgIM2HNNy4uz8EqnRAWe6jBNYJ1Nxg-xSAQlyVIJCnraUhwdX2xt62QpYbh9YpjCGvMTXfMl6llqsNmTsoKz4t30vQ/s1600/8+x+10+Harbingers+of+Spring+Framed.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgmlxhwo8H_huFft319KMZus2gmXOgmEmy5Xpr_by8xqjy3OKTSAYgIM2HNNy4uz8EqnRAWe6jBNYJ1Nxg-xSAQlyVIJCnraUhwdX2xt62QpYbh9YpjCGvMTXfMl6llqsNmTsoKz4t30vQ/s640/8+x+10+Harbingers+of+Spring+Framed.JPG" width="536" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
These two little Lovey Doves are kind of peachy colored with the Bluetopia texture in a moody turquoise green hue. The dove was actually one bird the jumped around on the branches of the tree and I took its picture. I merged two of the images together to make it look like love doves sitting together in the morning light. The magic of digital....</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg8MTi2weJ1Q50BEdRDRDKOMuCeeWdTaa95bjL0omgOXhBN4NAWUr4U3sbagD0A_-67An94DNtEJHaqym4WizbLctdtiNOpiCcc_i__Uq7eu82KGtu5vRrmIVAbuNXjuWMGFYhQgbRXBHY/s1600/8+x+10+Love+Doves+Framed.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="536" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg8MTi2weJ1Q50BEdRDRDKOMuCeeWdTaa95bjL0omgOXhBN4NAWUr4U3sbagD0A_-67An94DNtEJHaqym4WizbLctdtiNOpiCcc_i__Uq7eu82KGtu5vRrmIVAbuNXjuWMGFYhQgbRXBHY/s640/8+x+10+Love+Doves+Framed.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
These Cedar Waxwings came through our yard and spent a few days. Noisy, messy and fun to watch. They perched high up in the tree tops to get the very first warming rays of the sun in the morning and again in the evening to get the very last bits of sun rays at the end of each day. Beautiful birds almost lime green with a bit of orange stripe on their wings.<br />

And finally that noisy Cardinal calling in at the top of the three in the morning sunlight. He, or his family can be seen all during the year. I like that he sticks around. I used Bluetopia in a lovely moody blue indigo color for this one.<br />

I am still trying to capture a Barn Owl that likes to hang out in the woods close by. I got one shot of him, but there were too many branches in the way for me to make some beautiful art out of him...<br />
<br />
And now that I think about it I do have some other birds of prey photos that I should try to do something with. An Osprey and a Red Tip Hawk. I'll play around with them when I am in an adventurous mood.<br />

Here is the post about it:<br />

When I went to our local "Farmers Market", Sprouts, I loaded the cart up with other vegetable to photograph using the same technique. Of course I stuck rather loosely to an Italian cooking theme. I suppose you could think of this all as Salsa in the making too! I think I am still missing some beautiful green peppers and red onion, so stay tuned!<br />

Until the next adventure, have fun, I know I will! ~MicheleMichele Catinohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07963256682110174997noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-539723696968923027.post-21546784416819543822012-04-14T09:41:00.000-07:002012-04-16T07:44:58.288-07:00Good For YouIt seems as if most of my posts are centering around the theme of the week for the 52 week challenge I am participating in with Ellenburg Photography (<a href="http://ellenburgphotography.com/store/?page/38357/the_blog">http://ellenburgphotography.com/store/?page/38357/the_blog</a> for information on how to join in on the weekly challenge fun). This week's theme is "Good For You".<br />
<br />
With this topic, I immediately thought about exercise. And then that thought quickly faded, as do most of my workouts... Then I got my thoughts immediately onto food. Fruit. Vegetables. Then fried chicken, pizza, cake, and desserts. Wow those Good For You thought deteriorated quickly as I thought about the heartburn. But somehow I kept thinking back to my mother-in-law and peppers and onions and garlic and sausage. Good for you comfort food that in the end will ward away those mosquitoes I keep having trouble with.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgNPnl13rWyLZ8iq4KOS0Kg6x0DxTC9HeZyuk2oB6AmTwg2BxKNWAuMvIPNjxMdjzqKJYDabtzArRt1zYmO6_V0Nana5Nq3VJW-8Sp2EegZX4VLzna-RVi8IAVZFdTTp890fxpTRqSgBfs/s1600/Pulled+Back.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="227" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgNPnl13rWyLZ8iq4KOS0Kg6x0DxTC9HeZyuk2oB6AmTwg2BxKNWAuMvIPNjxMdjzqKJYDabtzArRt1zYmO6_V0Nana5Nq3VJW-8Sp2EegZX4VLzna-RVi8IAVZFdTTp890fxpTRqSgBfs/s320/Pulled+Back.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Here is my garlic set up on the kitchen table. Nothing too fancy. Garlic scattered about with a table runner on the back of a chair as a neutral textured background. Notice the office dog waiting and searching for morsels of something to be dropped... This is the still life photo I started with from the above setting.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg_FGsRs9E-z0T_jSVMgTe4252jrGst7vntM2X4QDACR0BXuShfuMnRRltwxElijopxy6SfBlsof9UDWXQ92dBiFIRQOQApr6JH2AvQJ2zjK-fp3CsIyLsgD-3kRgk6nLIGrtRp27BEbYg/s1600/Started+with.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg_FGsRs9E-z0T_jSVMgTe4252jrGst7vntM2X4QDACR0BXuShfuMnRRltwxElijopxy6SfBlsof9UDWXQ92dBiFIRQOQApr6JH2AvQJ2zjK-fp3CsIyLsgD-3kRgk6nLIGrtRp27BEbYg/s400/Started+with.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
On a side note, I actually once went out and bought Garlic pills in the health food section of a pharmacy in the vitimin isle. This was to keep myself from being sucked dry as I seem to be a pin cushion for skeeters. I don't know why I am soo attractive except that I must be exceptionally sweet. The garlic pills did not work by the way...<br />
<br />
Back to the photo art...I took the above photo and lighted it and cropped it to this...<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgAyXNiyPnj5nh0TQQ4RVlMZCwiRCnI0gZrG43qXqZIDMoz7Rob3raiDD-u3wZ54nv0xPQ4Di2Ky8ldgLy5QAh6N7hvnx-ZnhUkqL2VyD7nCwnRsGXe76LdrCPXYMTdprqAI98-OlwfG2s/s1600/CroppedLightened.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="308" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgAyXNiyPnj5nh0TQQ4RVlMZCwiRCnI0gZrG43qXqZIDMoz7Rob3raiDD-u3wZ54nv0xPQ4Di2Ky8ldgLy5QAh6N7hvnx-ZnhUkqL2VyD7nCwnRsGXe76LdrCPXYMTdprqAI98-OlwfG2s/s400/CroppedLightened.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
Then I used one of the freebie textures I got from
<a href="http://shadowhousecreations.blogspot.com/">http://shadowhousecreations.blogspot.com/</a> as I mentioned before, but I flipped it up.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEia6OwDqhdRfESfN8onzUhutYrFCrC4f4hILABU6wOOZ3HmshTxyaANt8-8PqNfsL-qUdx5SctmcLZIF9hYRVjy0D1pOWMftJm-0IlMzlFkwjQrJVMaNrAJTseUmzTK2Rshu5UUKlAwzEc/s1600/Texture.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="239" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEia6OwDqhdRfESfN8onzUhutYrFCrC4f4hILABU6wOOZ3HmshTxyaANt8-8PqNfsL-qUdx5SctmcLZIF9hYRVjy0D1pOWMftJm-0IlMzlFkwjQrJVMaNrAJTseUmzTK2Rshu5UUKlAwzEc/s320/Texture.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
and layered it over the shot at about 60% opaqueness if that is a word...<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiK32wAk_RzE3imI1XHGVyzMKmnKQfh1zf-GNZAKWIUYpED1k0fL52l4MTVXY3Av2VEL7lc-N6vlHoYIWRoWMdOcVHG5WxzB1mncVG9qVAcGr5pmbLeVjF3-CP-UIct0LX1k_22vqvzKUA/s1600/60+percent+layer.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="246" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiK32wAk_RzE3imI1XHGVyzMKmnKQfh1zf-GNZAKWIUYpED1k0fL52l4MTVXY3Av2VEL7lc-N6vlHoYIWRoWMdOcVHG5WxzB1mncVG9qVAcGr5pmbLeVjF3-CP-UIct0LX1k_22vqvzKUA/s320/60+percent+layer.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
There was not enough of the subject showing through, but I didn't want to lose any of the textured layer elements so I went at the garlic with the erasure to bring the Good For You subject to the foreground better.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgpUT_DQvNRFfvEa26ATI3nbrizEyI6ZVXINLddTm4xdpVkhs3XpQNSz5GcjlHXix7nWVJ5gG0H5U-_K9Rq_aVEok3caKD1fcQONqwVJKOJG-cePpSgsT25o-cuKZXmeBB8_25x4lrlqr4/s1600/Erased+out.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="310" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgpUT_DQvNRFfvEa26ATI3nbrizEyI6ZVXINLddTm4xdpVkhs3XpQNSz5GcjlHXix7nWVJ5gG0H5U-_K9Rq_aVEok3caKD1fcQONqwVJKOJG-cePpSgsT25o-cuKZXmeBB8_25x4lrlqr4/s400/Erased+out.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
Almost there. I was pleased with this but I warmed up the color a bit and brightened it up a bit to get this final shot...<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiRqRPiITDWECWMlLvG62a2g0Qie2BBU1UXvl8PxlPdevMeGCRCKxkeFATC7uDuKK8axiT8fj9fulkE3I14-xlDE-UGgHP_aWHADUPuDRT1eUCCB8m8LedoFonaW7X2NrV_tQiQzPXX2hY/s1600/Finished.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="492" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiRqRPiITDWECWMlLvG62a2g0Qie2BBU1UXvl8PxlPdevMeGCRCKxkeFATC7uDuKK8axiT8fj9fulkE3I14-xlDE-UGgHP_aWHADUPuDRT1eUCCB8m8LedoFonaW7X2NrV_tQiQzPXX2hY/s640/Finished.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
I printed it out onto watercolor paper for a matt finish and popped it temporarily into a chunky framed I have and I think it came out nice and old world looking. I will have to buy some peppers and onions today and do my Mother-in-law proud with some more Good For Yous.<br />

You can play along if you'd like too, here is the information about it: <a href="http://www.flickr.com/groups/ellenburgphotography-project52/">http://www.flickr.com/groups/ellenburgphotography-project52/</a><br />
This week our theme is Stackable. I decided on taking a photo of some stacked up pretty spools of ribbons and lace. I did this on a white background, but wanted a more "dreamy" "girly" look so I taped up some 12 x 12 scrapbook paper to the "wall" I made with a piece of mat board. I put a matching one down on the table as well.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEicI6h1qrqqKe9yX5ySsArSMdtr7LXq-CsVoFrdDNJSNZ1XiCcrQvRxgvvR-2f6K53I1juEBwBWFaOz4n6krQy6LYj3RxGQRTpBjsytpqO1zd53ZVkAMJbLRIUmF1WVazXRUMHmIY9vpS8/s1600/table.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEicI6h1qrqqKe9yX5ySsArSMdtr7LXq-CsVoFrdDNJSNZ1XiCcrQvRxgvvR-2f6K53I1juEBwBWFaOz4n6krQy6LYj3RxGQRTpBjsytpqO1zd53ZVkAMJbLRIUmF1WVazXRUMHmIY9vpS8/s400/table.JPG" width="331" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I ended up shooting about 40 or so shots of this set up from different angles while the sun faded in and out behind the clouds. Ended up adding another spool of lime green to the stack to make a pop of bright color and I really liked that effect. This is the shot I ended up with ultimately.</div>

Don't you agree about the pop of lime green? Anyways, I got carried away and started bringing out to the back patio "studio" all sorts of sewing and craft boxes of ribbons, scissors, buttons and threads. Really carried away to where I was out there until the sun was gone behind the clouds and it was mid afternoon, no longer mid morning and the natural lighting was gone...</div>

I used an aged photo tin type overlay on these to give them their vintage look. With that vintage layer and the edge burn they had the perfect aged shabby chic look.<br />

But with all the textures added on you can hardly tell that I used a different scrapbook paper on the back wall for each shot. Or maybe you can tell. It all adds to the ambiance anyways. Here is another shot of my outdoor studio and my "office dog". She was really into it all.....s n o o z e.....!<br />

Seems like I have checked on them daily since their green leaves popped out of the water and reached for the sun. It has been raining in North Texas and we need it to get out of our drought, but my flowers want some sunshine!<br />
<br />
Suddenly, it seems, they have bloomed and I head out back to take some pics without mosquito spray on. Bad Idea! I think I have malaria! Kidding aside, I shot out a few pics in between bites, without a much of a care for how they came out since I knew I could "fix" them...<br />
<br />
Here are some straight out of the camera shots ... this one is a tinge blue...<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg2lC1LdxmjxDCYSBm24x1ReKFQt_zymPhi4i9AYtFwc32q0_xMB4S9FoBwFhreh0F4vPc4AWEHGxxsfbjhPVSHmKT8zoWIzNFbOdQXKmEE-xTXxlEpDDsMV1Uk2I1Q-QJl_tpOr1h5vwM/s1600/Blue+one.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg2lC1LdxmjxDCYSBm24x1ReKFQt_zymPhi4i9AYtFwc32q0_xMB4S9FoBwFhreh0F4vPc4AWEHGxxsfbjhPVSHmKT8zoWIzNFbOdQXKmEE-xTXxlEpDDsMV1Uk2I1Q-QJl_tpOr1h5vwM/s400/Blue+one.JPG" width="300" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Between the clouds and the mosquitoes, I am not ashamed to say that I did not do a great job setting up my shots....patience, I will have to learn. Bug spray can help.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
This shot I did not do any post processing except for cropping. It is an ode to O'Keeffe. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Was that a stretch? I think not! On this next one I played around with the contrast and brightness. Upped the brightness and upped the contrast for a more dramatic look. It makes the yellow pop.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I finished up playing with the Irises by taking this photo (which is a little on the blue-gray side) and lightened it up a bit and upped the contrast like I did with the previous photo...</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
So it went from this... </div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
to this...</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjUiYwu7pCiISFMES3LjuGLrQ_mKkIXXpvQL0KXJL72UMbeJdXuDLsPB4v9WwBFjdlfguJYPVJyJw_7BghrTLA1QS-QuHtrKnMem_kfo4gwEfbzdyCf5ANIH-v41j9-dIGob2iwCU22c9E/s1600/Contrasted+Irises.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjUiYwu7pCiISFMES3LjuGLrQ_mKkIXXpvQL0KXJL72UMbeJdXuDLsPB4v9WwBFjdlfguJYPVJyJw_7BghrTLA1QS-QuHtrKnMem_kfo4gwEfbzdyCf5ANIH-v41j9-dIGob2iwCU22c9E/s400/Contrasted+Irises.JPG" width="300" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
But I wanted a more "dreamy" look to it. Or Shabby Chic. Or Cottage Chic. Or Vintage. Whatever the terms are for the moment. I added a texture layer of some scratchy scricty sepia texture that looks like this:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjqWn0obc95-PWM_7a2LQqSBflkfXG7axS8Sj25yDv64Wuab_QgY-NfyqeeN1ZRcc6QE20_G6BcdhOTxzq24IM3uTLUeaL4Wy04FWoQuXT8D7HncoDxGQDHCtR-kWG_jQnPCxpxbhtDmyM/s1600/Textures_01.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjqWn0obc95-PWM_7a2LQqSBflkfXG7axS8Sj25yDv64Wuab_QgY-NfyqeeN1ZRcc6QE20_G6BcdhOTxzq24IM3uTLUeaL4Wy04FWoQuXT8D7HncoDxGQDHCtR-kWG_jQnPCxpxbhtDmyM/s400/Textures_01.jpg" width="266" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
You can find textures by Sarah Gardner on her website. (LOVE HER WORK!) She has some free downloads to try out and if you follow her blog sometimes there are others for free. <a href="http://www.sarahgardnertextures.com/">http://www.sarahgardnertextures.com/</a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Adding the texture to the photo and playing some more with the brightness and contrasts I came up with this photo. I also did add a little bevel to the edge to make it, well, edgy.</div>

I know they were because I Googled it. I have been waiting for one of these blue sky, sunshine, puffy white cloud days so I could head over to a nearby hill and take some pictures. That is what I did. Proof:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjm6ImKwfTpYglfl7Vv4fWd8_yM7CNDPEJP3HPzKHNWCvrYhXApOWSQx3Es6j2pvzt5AcKjYNaoAHR_-Jho9s5DcsB6nyp4s9jGKiaXXFPIiCT_MELG5DnogNZCoSsNRrZq676XDow7wsY/s1600/HillsAre+Alive.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjm6ImKwfTpYglfl7Vv4fWd8_yM7CNDPEJP3HPzKHNWCvrYhXApOWSQx3Es6j2pvzt5AcKjYNaoAHR_-Jho9s5DcsB6nyp4s9jGKiaXXFPIiCT_MELG5DnogNZCoSsNRrZq676XDow7wsY/s400/HillsAre+Alive.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
This is the kind of puffy white clouds in the sunshine over a hill kind of day where you expect to see the Von Trapp kids come out with Julia what's her name singing about the hills being alive with the sound of music whilst wearing outfits fit to make curtains with. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
And as usual, I had an outcome in mind as to what I wanted to do with the photos I took. The sun wasn't involved. So, picture with no sun involved was the focus.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiFADCrUVjLJJKc2OScSl6vKQpLmSw39Ru1COP7lbte5xBY_qlZgywEbcI2KAbYH9PdMA8OLpsLbco5fR91rnR0fsr0mrSdikjYbs2uVSnbi_TxDph7P43m2KuEStKUDWBD1jTP8QTtprw/s1600/No+sun.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiFADCrUVjLJJKc2OScSl6vKQpLmSw39Ru1COP7lbte5xBY_qlZgywEbcI2KAbYH9PdMA8OLpsLbco5fR91rnR0fsr0mrSdikjYbs2uVSnbi_TxDph7P43m2KuEStKUDWBD1jTP8QTtprw/s320/No+sun.JPG" width="268" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Since I knew that I would be messing around with the photos to create some sort of artwork master pieces, I wasn't too concerned with the exposures and depth of field. But I did want some focus. Sort of.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I chose a picture and added a layer which I got, if memory serves me correctly (and it usually does not), at one point from here</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://shadowhousecreations.blogspot.com/">http://shadowhousecreations.blogspot.com/</a> </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
and looks like this:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhDfU-PxjEjkYPHWsyCFMI3dac8yPwu2IOV8qp2woJg5JgIUZwgjOZ9QqQSqcV25CWposLUXrG3MO32LH1-CjlHk9Lcv0HtyDYY_3XYYJnm4HWS12wHteZuKIO-DrB7xjUZtTaQJXprS0E/s1600/texture.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhDfU-PxjEjkYPHWsyCFMI3dac8yPwu2IOV8qp2woJg5JgIUZwgjOZ9QqQSqcV25CWposLUXrG3MO32LH1-CjlHk9Lcv0HtyDYY_3XYYJnm4HWS12wHteZuKIO-DrB7xjUZtTaQJXprS0E/s320/texture.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Then I combined the two dropping the texture to about 50 % opacity.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiqXEM1ztaQSzTKvqoL-ap7CuIRLaDaQbu-m_VXQKlDkOLBxKEwVmR5EtPiUZMoMRPrCzOrUObG7d-RVfA1dDE7yrAuGiIEGrlIDDUOh58JKz_rMSs1tOWBOpzvK8i1778C7mPL6sJAYbQ/s1600/Texture+layer.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiqXEM1ztaQSzTKvqoL-ap7CuIRLaDaQbu-m_VXQKlDkOLBxKEwVmR5EtPiUZMoMRPrCzOrUObG7d-RVfA1dDE7yrAuGiIEGrlIDDUOh58JKz_rMSs1tOWBOpzvK8i1778C7mPL6sJAYbQ/s320/Texture+layer.jpg" width="268" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
From here I upped the contrast and dropped the brightness. This will bring out the texture and later I went in and made the whole thing brighter.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiyB5S9LqSX4oQWfpbDzM1UOtD472zjKSD9RCn7CgOahsJ3_OQsxyCgOvKikwFFtr6P5_z0nwSEUDyLEH9E8ZwdyBLZSnK6ZRC50Zy_elX7LusKhqu9FJpUt0X_OQBwxw_-2Eng8OcIeIM/s1600/Texture+layer+contrast.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiyB5S9LqSX4oQWfpbDzM1UOtD472zjKSD9RCn7CgOahsJ3_OQsxyCgOvKikwFFtr6P5_z0nwSEUDyLEH9E8ZwdyBLZSnK6ZRC50Zy_elX7LusKhqu9FJpUt0X_OQBwxw_-2Eng8OcIeIM/s320/Texture+layer+contrast.jpg" width="268" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I did make the whole thing brighter and then decided to change the hue and saturation a bit before burning in some dark edges. This is my final example:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjrcmd65VFuol9MAQaISadoGrqkii8bd2ejM5I1a6R5zBIoMduTGkld6horOhK24KCw0yTvL_Jlr7QbZO17299-l9w6QSJsqSFXP5FyDne4dj0QiTBwvRiT_K91mSikqhvdXhRpabA4qbc/s1600/Final+layer+contrast.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjrcmd65VFuol9MAQaISadoGrqkii8bd2ejM5I1a6R5zBIoMduTGkld6horOhK24KCw0yTvL_Jlr7QbZO17299-l9w6QSJsqSFXP5FyDne4dj0QiTBwvRiT_K91mSikqhvdXhRpabA4qbc/s640/Final+layer+contrast.jpg" width="536" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Them hills seems if they are actually alive with music, no?</div>

I took a trip to the nursery to get some annuals for the garden. Of course I took my camera with me! I had in mind to make some 6" x 6" kitchen artworks of herbs. I played with different setting at the nursery. Here is the sage straight out of the camera (SOOC):<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjLasS7yDQWCIxd3-rJ3B61BxWHW9E45Kdbm0dxtzuA6z_Jq8pWPjTq4bVbN1ZsKxGIHUICS49deF_1jmNwGVxAfUNvfsvYy5UU-xsrMe-kCMCC_x2ZXmq7XqQRnJdoQnqygsm6SpUgNbY/s1600/herb+basil.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjLasS7yDQWCIxd3-rJ3B61BxWHW9E45Kdbm0dxtzuA6z_Jq8pWPjTq4bVbN1ZsKxGIHUICS49deF_1jmNwGVxAfUNvfsvYy5UU-xsrMe-kCMCC_x2ZXmq7XqQRnJdoQnqygsm6SpUgNbY/s320/herb+basil.JPG" width="239" /></a></div>

and the Parsley and Thyme and Rosemary. I did those out of order, didn't I?<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
I like how the Rosemary came out, but it didn't fit what I had in mind. I tried some different textures over the herb photos but it just wasn't working out the way I had envisioned it. Much of the artwork I do with my photos seems to be worked out ahead of time in my mind, I just have to figure out how to get to the result I want. I ended up cropping the photos to squares and working two layers, one in sepia and then I worked in the plant leaves in color. This one is the Basil:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhsxRcVsr2YAHxx9aOW2PGcnoSuMrJpDwft4eHwD3eIR3ozXnLBhBEEkMIsdlTjrL_Ak9jYfH41JT6lUwtd_8lT9fSfPkPjEwUP8WE6UCGMeoKa7vezBnJzTP46J-nZhroeCsjWXanLD10/s1600/Basil.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhsxRcVsr2YAHxx9aOW2PGcnoSuMrJpDwft4eHwD3eIR3ozXnLBhBEEkMIsdlTjrL_Ak9jYfH41JT6lUwtd_8lT9fSfPkPjEwUP8WE6UCGMeoKa7vezBnJzTP46J-nZhroeCsjWXanLD10/s400/Basil.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Finally I wanted words on the photos. So after working the burned edges, I brought the file into CorelDraw to add text and exported as a .tif file. Here are two more with their text: </div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I will offer these as Kitchen Art Decor in my online shop soon as probably 8 x 8 prints. But I decided to make a digital download scrapbook art sheet as well. I like to offer something different with my photos for the scrapping world. The final sheet came out like this (sans the watermark of course ;) :</div>

And the wildflowers are coming up. With all the rain we have been deluged with, it is sure to be a great year for wildflowers. I'll be sure to make time to take a flower photo trek this year.<br />
<br />

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Indian Paintbrushes are already coming up.</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br />
The Indian Paintbrush flowers are coming up already. Seems earlier than usual. I remember going for a drive to look at the Texas Bluebonnets and I believe it was Mother's Day, but I could be off by a month I suppose. Here is a Bluebonnet growing in the neighbor's yard down the street.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<br />
Such a dramatic sky! This Wisteria flower I snapped a pic of as I was headed to the grocery store. Yes I had my camera with me. Even though the sky was gray and ready to rain I was compelled to click away.<br />
<br />

My weeds will flourish! Hopefully my flowers and herb garden will too. We got some herbs in the garden this weekend. I will take some photos soon. But the clouds and the rain had me taking pics of the sky.<br />

I just love how the clouds were glowing orange in the vibrant blue sky! Doesn't make much for a photo though. I have an abundance of these clouds in the sky photos and I have been trying to figure out what to do with them.<br />

Here is another heavenly photo of clouds in the sky. Most of the photos I of sunsets and clouds are taken in the street in front of my house. Because there are many trees in the way I sometimes walk a little ways down the road to get my "shot". </div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I took a series of clover photos for a 52 Week photo challenge and I was lucky (!!) enough to find a few four leaf clovers and some mutant 5 leafs! I guess that would make me extra lucky? We'll see. I made the photos take on several finishes: Green Chrome, a hand colored pencil finish, a negative and sepia tone in addition to the traditional "Irish Green" color effect.</div>

Have fun creating. I had an afternoon of fun snapping away at the clovers in the grass, on my knees and on my belly when I decided to just take a couple of handpicked hand fulls back to the kitchen and lay them out onto some matboard for their portraits. The clean background lended itself to a graphic image much better than a landscaped background. I never did use the images for the 52 Week Project challenge. Someday I will post more on that Project.</div>
